As a traveller I often find myself in places were I feel this is the best place I visited ever and then the next trip I have another favourite. A travel bug can never have a favourite place, I guess. Its all the unique experiences and memories which stays with you as a life lesson. Living in Delhi since ages and then travelling to Goa quite often because of my work, I have always got the opportunity to live the fast life as well as the slow. Experience the city lights and cut throat game of survival and also the chilled out, easy going and beach loving Goan life.

Nature’s Nest – An Intro

Nature’s Nest is a brain child of three friends ‘Sangam Patil’, ‘Ramesh Zarmekar’ and one more. This Place started in 2008 as a bird watching camp during season. Nature and bird lovers from all around the world would come over here to witness this beautiful phenomena. After a significant 10% to 15% of growth every year, they decided to turn in to a eco resort running 365 days a year along with multiple activities offered by them.

Our Journey –

15th August, on a national holiday we also decided to get free from all our work and hectic schedule and take this trip. From my place in Goa, its a 1.5 hours drive to the resort. From Panjim, you need to drive in the Panjim – Ponda road and then Panjim – Belagavi Road. The resort is just before the famous 13th century “Tambdi Surla’ Temple. It was quite a ride. Captivating views, soulful music and me and my friend. We enjoyed every bit of the journey.

Stay –

We checked in around 1pm. After a traditional Kokum Drink at the reception we headed towards our cottage. Our room remainded me of my granny’s house. That raw touch to it. Huge rooms with limited furnishings. Red floor and wooden furnitures. It was indeed very cozy. Wooden bed with clean sheets and a window from where you would witness squirrels and butterflies hanging around the place. Washrooms were clean and spacious.

‘Kunjan’ was the name of our cottage. The pathways were surrounded by huge coconut trees and many other plants. This place is home to many flura and fauna. You would experience typical Goan traditional cuisine. Right from Xacuti to Solkadi, Bhakri, seafood, kismur etc. You will be welcomed with huge buffet of Goan delicacies placed in earthen pots.

Activites –

  • This was the most fun part and I totally enjoyed it. Not very sure of my physical strength, I was quite impressed with my performance. Right from artificial wall climbing, zip line crossing, flying fox, I did it all.

  • One of the remarkable activity was a small trek in the evening to a plateau for a spectacular sunset. We couldn’t see it though as it was monsoon and it started drizzling when we reach there. But to our surprise the view was equally mesmerising. The hazy weather, rain drops, peacock singing in the distance and beautiful water streams on our way to the hill top was totally unforgettable experience. Guess what! even I go to check out the one of a kind carnivorous plants.

small insects gets stuck onto the thorny plants. The plant rolls itself to hunt the insects.

  • Another activity which blew my mind was the night trail in the jungle in absolute pitch dark to see the Bioluminescent fungi plant. At a particular point we were asked to switch off our cell phone torch and guess what…. We were surrounded by plants which were glowing from top to bottom. It was exactly like radium. These kind of phenomenon occurs in extreme humid and moist conditions. Wish I had a night vision camera 😦

  • Next morning we we all set for the trek to the ‘Talde Waterfall’. We had to cover a 10 mnts drive and then a 45 mnts trek to the waterfall. Admist of heavy monsoon rain through the jungle we made it to the waterfall. Straight walks to stiff mountain climbing, we had to cross it all. There was also a point where we had to cross a narrow wooden block over a big drain which seperates forest reserve area and Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.

IMG_3576

It was scary to cross it as you cannot even put your both legs together as it is that narrow. But it was all worth it after we saw the beautiful waterfall. Can you guys imagine how it might feel doing all this in real.

I am not sure whether my words will do justice to the actual experience I had there.
I was in a happy zone thinking living in Goa itself is so peaceful & calm. But this place changed my definition of peace. My first impression was Woow! and then got little scared as we are not use to living in complete silence & darkness away from everything called urban.
It was a raw beauty. All this left me thinking about the life we are living today in the city happy doing activities like net surfing & weekend parties… and off course the list goes on.

–  Things To Remember  –

  • Its a lot of walk over there so carry comfortable and proper grip footwear.
  • Carry trekking or jogging shoes.
  • Full length pants or joggers for the trek and night walk as to protect yourself from snakes / insects crawling onto you.
  • Carrying a Insect Repellent is must, if your not a person who tolerates insect or mosquito bites.
  • Appropriate clothing for activities like Zip Line Crossing / Flying Fox etc.

Laila Fathima is a sweetheart. Loves to cook and you will have a lovely time spending at her cafe. She often visited GOA for holidays and fell in love with the place like many of us. Her love for Goa was strong enough to make her leave the corporate career and she finally followed her passion and stared her cafe in GOA. In the beginning she started only home deliveries of Biriyanis and few Hyderabadi specialities. I met her then and now it’s so inspiring to see her in her own cafe.

She cooks her heart out everyday and serves flavourful dishes. Everyday is a different menu and they serve only lunch.

It is in the Anjuna Vagator road.

What we ate –

* Mutton Haleem – I tried it for the first time. It has a porridge consistency with mutton and cereals cooked together and then mashed. It’s a healthy & filling dish. Muslims prefer to include in their food menu while fasting to keep them going for the day.

* Mutton Biryani – Biryani was simple yet flavourful.

* Baghaare Baingan – This Hyderabadi dish stole my heart. Peanuts, coconut and different spices cooked to make a thick gravy and brinjal is cooked in that. I loved it. Very spicy and had a unique taste.

* Shahi Paneer – 👍🏼👌🏼

* Chole Masala – 👍🏼👌🏼

* Lachha Paratha – 👍🏼👌🏼

* BangolorianGhee Rice – 👍🏼👌🏼

** SANA-DI-GE ** A Coastal Cuisine Delight

image17

It was a random plan to visit this place with one of my friend. We both share a common weakness which is for costal cuisine and sea food.

Sana-Di-Ge in Tulu refers to the brass lamp lit on auspicious occasions in the coastal belt of Karnataka. It is a coastal speciality fine dine restaurant with splendid ambiance and serving wide varieties of Coastal Cuisine.

image5

The menu is eclectic blend of coastal cuisine, North Indian Cuisine and Chinese Cuisine.

image9

My Love for this place is little personal as it took me back to my fond memories of years I stayed in Goa. Fresh Fish, Beaches and Sand, Coconut Curry, Local Market and their fresh produce. My friend from Mangalore who can’t stop talking about “Ghee Rice” and South Costal Cuisine. He made amazing dishes for few close friends and thats when I fell in love with costal cuisine.

At “Sana-Di-Ge”  I relived my past happy moments of costal cuisine and cherished each and every morsel. It is an absolute essential and a must try for food lovers..
